The Utopia occurrence is located at the site of diamond-drill holes 3 and 6, about six kilometres east of the community of Atlin.

The showing area is underlain by upper Mississippian to Permian ultramafic intrusions, upper Mississippian to Permian Nakina Formation basalt, and Mississippian to Triassic Kedahda Formation limestone, chert and argillite, all of the Cache Creek Complex. The ultramafics are commonly serpentinized, carbonatized and silicified. The andesite is sometimes weakly carbonatized and contains up to 1 per cent pyrite. The occurrence of listwanite is possible.

In 1986, diamond drilling intersected quartz stockwork within all rock types. Quartz-carbonate veinlets in carbonatized basalt contain pyrite, galena and sphalerite. Gold values are not significant; silver assayed up to 8.6 grams per tonne (Assessment Report 15693). Minor chromite occurs in ultramafic rock.

In 1986, Gallant Gold Mines Ltd. conducted a work program consisting of diamond drilling (six holes for 801.6 total metres), VLF-EM and proton precession magnetometer surveys over 2.7 kilometres.

In 2013, Arctic Geophysics Inc. conducted a 2D Resistivity Survey over the area, looking for placer gold potential.
